Proston breaks open the piggy bank for RRMH

Proston Golden Spurs Hotel owners, Di and Andy Grant, have managed to kill two birds with one stone.

Recognising the stress the drought and COVID-19 had put on their community, the pair decided to bring everyone together to let off some steam while raising money for charity.

The result was the inaugural Proston Pig Races, which were held on 5 September and raised a whopping $10,353.75.

All proceeds were donated to RRMH and will be used to fund Rural Minds community workshops.

Andy Grant said he and Di shortlisted a number of charities but ultimately chose RRMH and Rural Minds.

“They guarantee all the money raised will go back into regional communities and not on administrative costs,” he said.

RRMH CEO Joe Hooper said: “This demonstrates the commitment rural folk have to supporting each other and getting things done”.

A big thank you to the Grants, the Proston community and everyone who attended the event. The funds will be put to good use, educating rural communities about mental health and suicide prevention.
