Culture in COVID-19

A Deadly Thinking supporter describes how connecting with culture is helping her cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.

COVID-19 has been hard, especially for a lot of my mob. The shutdowns mean there’s more unemployment than ever.

We’re all doing our best to look after each other but it’s hard for everyone, even the ones that still have work.

I’ve been trying to turn the experience into a positive one. I’ve used it to focus on culture; letting it give me comfort and strength and share it with others.

It’s given me time to work on my healing. I got the powers from my grandmother and my aunty but I haven’t used them as much as I should.

I’m lucky because I grew up on country. I lived away for a long time but it’s good to be back. There’s so much healing power here. It helps me and lets me help other people.

Things have been hard but it’s also been really good for me. It gave me the time to remember who I am and think about what I need to be doing.
